Last updated: June 2026 following our return visit to Sparkles Bar Maspalomas.
Returning to Sparkles Bar Maspalomas was one of the easiest decisions we made when planning our latest trip to Gran Canaria.
My partner and I first visited Sparkles during a previous holiday and ended up spending six nights there. By the time we booked our return trip in 2026, there was never really any question about where we’d be spending our evenings.
Sure enough, we found ourselves back at Sparkles every single night of our week-long holiday.
Located in the heart of the Yumbo Centre, Sparkles Bar has earned a reputation as one of the most popular drag venues in Gran Canaria. Since our previous visit, the venue has undergone some major changes, including a larger stage, a huge LED screen, a rotating platform, pyrotechnic effects, and several new performers joining the lineup.
Having now spent thirteen nights at Sparkles Bar Maspalomas across two separate holidays, we’ve seen the venue evolve whilst maintaining everything that made us fall in love with it in the first place.
This updated review covers everything you need to know, including the latest performers, drinks prices, show times, atmosphere, and whether Sparkles Bar is worth adding to your Maspalomas itinerary.
If you’re looking for one of the best nights out in Gran Canaria, keep reading.
Sparkles Bar Maspalomas lights up the Yumbo Shopping Centre every night from 8pm-2am, 363 days a year in the heart of Playa del Inglés.

The Basics: Location and Getting There
Sparkles Bar Maspalomas (@sparkles.gc) is located in the Playa del Inglés area of Maspalomas in southern Gran Canaria. Situated within the famous Yumbo Centre, the venue sits at the heart of the resort’s LGBTQ+ nightlife scene, surrounded by bars, restaurants, shops, and hotels.
By day, Sparkles blends into the busy shopping centre. By night, it transforms into one of Gran Canaria’s most popular entertainment venues.
The Yumbo Centre can feel like a maze for first-time visitors. With shops, bars, and restaurants spread across multiple levels connected by staircases, walkways, and open-air terraces, finding specific venues isn’t always straightforward.
You’ll find Sparkles on the second floor opposite the main entrance with the iconic neon dinosaur. The easiest way to locate it is to head towards Burger King and look up to your right where the distinctive Sparkles signage is impossible to miss.
One thing that immediately stood out during our return visit was how much the venue has evolved. The upgraded stage and larger performance area have made Sparkles feel even more like a professional theatre experience whilst retaining the welcoming atmosphere that made us return in the first place.
Being located in the centre of the Yumbo puts Sparkles within walking distance of most accommodation in Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas. Our hotel was only a few minutes away, making it the perfect place to finish every evening.
Sparkles Bar opens 363 days a year, closing only on Christmas Day and Carnival Saturday, and operates from 8pm until 2am. The main drag show usually runs from around 11pm until 1am, although timings can vary slightly depending on the evening.
Best of all, entry is completely free. You only pay for your drinks.
By day, Sparkles blends into the bustling Yumbo Shopping Centre, but by night it transforms into Gran Canaria’s premier drag destination.
The Sparkles Experience: Venue and Shows
The Venue
Step inside Sparkles Bar Maspalomas and you’re immediately struck by the atmosphere. The venue embraces everything you’d hope for from a drag bar, with vibrant lighting, plenty of energy, and an audience that’s ready to have a good time.
The biggest difference between our previous visit and our return in 2026 is the stage itself.
Since we were last here, Sparkles has invested heavily in the show experience. The stage is noticeably larger and now features a huge LED screen alongside pyrotechnic effects that add extra excitement to some of the performances. There is also a rotating platform which occasionally forms part of the acts, although the real stars of the show remain the queens themselves.
Despite the upgrades, Sparkles still feels wonderfully intimate. The tables are arranged around the stage, creating an atmosphere where audience interaction is a huge part of the experience. The performers regularly work the room, chat with guests, and make people feel involved rather than simply watching from a distance.
The venue has around 40 tables inside and 45 outside, giving it a total capacity of approximately 350 guests. That might sound large on paper, but Sparkles never feels impersonal. The layout has been designed so that most tables enjoy excellent views of the stage, whilst still maintaining the lively atmosphere that makes every night feel like an event.
Having visited before the renovation and again afterwards, we think Sparkles has struck the perfect balance. The venue feels fresher and more modern, but it hasn’t lost the personality, humour, and welcoming atmosphere that made us return night after night.
The expanded stage and giant LED backdrop have transformed the Sparkles show experience.

Show Schedule and Format
One of the reasons we kept returning to Sparkles Bar night after night is that no two evenings ever felt exactly the same.
The venue opens at 8pm each evening, with entertainment building throughout the night before the main drag show begins at around 11pm. Shows typically run until 1am, although timings can vary slightly depending on the performers and audience interaction.
Before the main event, guests can enjoy karaoke hosted by members of the drag cast. This creates a fun and relaxed atmosphere, with holidaymakers often taking to the stage whilst the venue gradually fills up. Even if singing in public isn’t your thing, it’s a great way to get into the spirit of the evening. Several of the queens performing later in the show regularly host the karaoke, giving guests the chance to meet them before the main event begins.
Once the show starts, expect a fast-paced mix of comedy, live vocals, lip-sync performances, dance routines, audience participation, and the occasional unexpected surprise. The variety is one of Sparkles’ greatest strengths and means you never quite know what’s coming next.
One of the reasons we ended up spending every evening at Sparkles was that the shows continued to feel fresh throughout the week. Whilst we occasionally saw a repeated number, most performances were different from one night to the next.
With multiple queens appearing each evening and a huge variety of acts on offer, there was always something new to look forward to. Even familiar routines felt different depending on the audience and the interaction taking place around them.
That’s one of the things Sparkles does particularly well. You can visit more than once and still feel like you’re seeing a different show.
The upgraded stage, LED screen, and special effects add another layer to the experience, but the heart of Sparkles remains the performers themselves. Their ability to entertain, interact with the audience, and keep the energy levels high for two hours every night is what keeps people coming back again and again.

Meet the Queens
One of the reasons Sparkles Bar remains so entertaining is the quality and variety of the performers. Every queen brings something completely different to the stage, meaning no two nights ever feel the same.
The upgraded stage now features a huge LED screen showcasing the current Sparkles lineup.

Brandy
As the owner of Sparkles Bar, Brandy (@theeonlybrandy)is very much the beating heart of the venue. Quick-witted, unpredictable, and brilliantly funny, she has an incredible ability to read a room and turn almost anything into comedy gold.
What we love most about Brandy is that you genuinely never know what she’s going to do next. One moment she’s delivering a camp pop number and the next she’s blending British popular culture with classic songs in ways that somehow make perfect sense. Her B&M homage to It’s Raining Men remains one of the funniest routines we’ve seen at Sparkles.
She’s also exceptionally quick on the microphone, bouncing off audience members and fellow queens with ease. Every night Brandy seemed to create moments that felt spontaneous and unique to that particular audience.

Rosebud
If we had to choose a favourite performer from our 2026 trip, Rosebud (@rosebudthequeen) would probably take the crown.
Having watched her perform during both of our visits to Sparkles Bar, it was fascinating to see how much she has developed over the past year. She was already a talented performer in 2025, but during our return visit she seemed to have taken everything up another level.
What makes Rosebud so enjoyable to watch is her versatility. Some queens excel in one particular area, whether that’s comedy, vocals, dancing, or audience interaction. Rosebud somehow manages to do all of them exceptionally well.
She’s wickedly quick on the microphone, effortlessly funny, and has a natural ability to keep the audience engaged throughout a performance. Just when you think you’ve worked out what type of performer she is, she shows another side of her drag.
One thing we particularly noticed was how present she always was on stage. Even during group numbers, she was constantly reacting to what was happening around her, bouncing off fellow queens and audience members alike. There was always something drawing your attention towards her. She has that star quality that is so difficult to define!
By the end of our 2026 trip, Rosebud was the performer we found ourselves talking about most after each show. In a venue packed with talented queens, that’s no small achievement.
Rosebud mesmerizes audiences at Sparkles Bar Maspalomas with phenomenal dancing and wonderfully chaotic spoken word performances.

Dinah Might
We saw much more of Dinah Might(@dinah_might_gran_canaria) during our 2026 visit and she quickly became one of the queens we looked forward to seeing most.
Having been part of the Sparkles family for many years, Dinah has the confidence of a performer who knows exactly how to work a room. Her style of drag is wonderfully irreverent, completely unapologetic, and often hilarious.
Nothing ever seems off-limits with Dinah. One moment she’s delivering a cheeky one-liner, the next she’s got the entire audience in stitches with a routine that most performers probably wouldn’t dare attempt. Her performances can be outrageous, crude, and gloriously over-the-top, but they’re always funny.
What we particularly enjoyed was her unpredictability. You never quite knew where a performance was heading, which made every appearance feel like an event. Whether she was interacting with audience members or taking a classic character in a completely unexpected direction, she had a knack for creating moments that people were still talking about afterwards.
Despite the chaos, there’s a real skill behind what Dinah does. She knows exactly how far to push a joke and has the experience to keep the audience on side throughout. By the end of our trip, she had become one of the performers we were most excited to see take to the stage each evening.
Dinah Might delivers classic British drag humor with wonderfully crude numbers and perfect timing at Sparkles Bar Maspalomas.

Heather Phetish
We didn’t get the chance to see Heather Phetish (@heatherphetish) perform during our first visit to Sparkles, although we did catch her on the Sparkles Tour in December 2025 and immediately understood why she had developed such a strong following.
Thankfully, we were able to see her perform twice during our 2026 trip and she absolutely lived up to expectations.
Heather has a wonderful ability to balance high glamour with complete absurdity. One moment she’s serving incredible looks and commanding the stage with confidence, the next she’s embracing the ridiculous and leaving the audience crying with laughter. It’s a combination that shouldn’t work nearly as well as it does.
She commits fully to every performance, regardless of how outrageous the concept might be. A hilarious appearance as Ariel from The Little Mermaid had the audience in stitches and perfectly captured her willingness to throw herself into a character.
Like many of the best Sparkles performers, Heather keeps you guessing. You never quite know what she’s going to do next, but you know it’s going to be memorable. After finally seeing her perform at the venue itself, we completely understood why she’s become such a popular part of the Sparkles lineup.

Angel
One of the standout additions to the Sparkles lineup, Angel (@theangelofficialx) brings a brilliant mix of vocals, comedy, and audience interaction to the stage. Originally from Cork in Ireland, she quickly became one of the performers we were most excited to see throughout our week.
Her live vocals were exceptional. Several of her performances showcased just how talented a singer she is, with the quality of her voice often stopping conversations around the room. Yet despite that talent, she never takes herself too seriously.
Like many of the best Sparkles queens, Angel is just as comfortable being silly as she is delivering polished performances. Across the week we saw everything from cabaret-style numbers to pure camp comedy, all performed with confidence and charm.
She also has a mischievous streak on the microphone. Similar to Violet Pain, Angel can absolutely read someone to filth when the opportunity presents itself, but she delivers it with such a warm smile that everyone ends up laughing along.
Angel feels like a natural fit for Sparkles and a fantastic addition to the lineup.
Samantha Moans
Having performed at Sparkles on and off for many years, Samantha Moans (@samantha.moans) has the confidence and professionalism that comes from knowing exactly how to entertain a room.
We saw her perform on five of our seven nights and she was consistently excellent. Her strength lies on the microphone, where she effortlessly balances humour, audience interaction, and storytelling. Nothing ever feels forced and she always seems completely in control of the room.
One of the things we enjoyed most about Samantha was the way she blended different styles of performance. Whether delivering spoken-word pieces or high-energy dance numbers, she approached everything with the same confidence and charisma.
Unlike some of the sharper-tongued queens, Samantha’s humour tends to be delivered with a glint in her eye that makes the audience feel part of the joke rather than the target of it. She has a warmth about her that makes her instantly likeable whilst still being incredibly funny.
After seeing her so many times throughout the week, it was easy to understand why she has remained such a popular part of the Sparkles lineup.
Violet Pain
Violet Pain (@violet.painofficial)quickly became one of our favourite discoveries from the 2026 lineup.
An absolute sweetheart offstage and on the microphone, she has mastered the art of delivering devastatingly funny reads whilst somehow maintaining an innocent and charming persona. More than once we watched audience members realise several seconds too late that they had just been expertly mocked.
Her style of drag sits firmly on the sillier side of the spectrum, which suited us perfectly. Pop culture references, clever comedy, and wonderfully ridiculous concepts all form part of her repertoire, and she approaches every performance with complete commitment.
There is a real intelligence behind her humour. Even the most absurd routines are carefully constructed and packed with details that reward paying attention.
For us, Violet embodied one of the things Sparkles does best. She was funny, creative, quick-witted, and completely unafraid to embrace the ridiculous. Every time she appeared on stage, you knew something entertaining was about to happen.
Venus
Venus (@therealvenusgc) was one of the newer faces we encountered during our 2026 visit and despite only seeing her perform once, she left a strong impression.
Still relatively early in her drag journey, she already possesses a confidence and stage presence that many performers spend years developing. She looked incredible on stage and carried herself with the poise of someone completely comfortable in the spotlight.
Her vocals were particularly impressive and she slotted seamlessly into both solo and group performances throughout the evening. There was also a playful side to her drag that occasionally emerged in unexpected ways, adding a touch of humour alongside the glamour.
Based on what we saw, Venus feels like a performer with a very bright future ahead of her. We’re already looking forward to seeing how she develops when we return to Sparkles again.
Armani
Armani (@advyneofficial) brought a level of experience and polish that was immediately apparent from the moment she stepped onto the stage.
Having worked in Gran Canaria’s entertainment scene for many years, she carries herself with the confidence of a seasoned professional. Her performances leaned towards the glamorous end of the drag spectrum, showcasing elegance, style, and exceptional attention to detail.
There was something wonderfully timeless about her approach. Whilst many of the younger queens embraced chaos and comedy, Armani delivered performances built on strong stagecraft and classic entertainment values.
Her portrayal of Tina Turner was particularly memorable and demonstrated just how accomplished she is as a performer. It wasn’t simply a tribute, it felt like watching someone who had truly studied every detail of the icon she was portraying.
Armani may not have been the loudest performer in the lineup, but she was undoubtedly one of the most polished. Every appearance felt effortless, the hallmark of somebody who has spent years perfecting their craft.
Miss Foguen
Miss Foguen (@missfoguen) brings a distinctly Gran Canaria flavour to the Sparkles lineup. Whilst many of the performers come from the UK, Ireland, Australia, and elsewhere, Miss Foguen feels deeply connected to the island’s own drag scene.
Her performances are built around high glamour, incredible dancing, and huge bursts of energy that immediately grab the audience’s attention. Costume reveals, fast-paced choreography, and commanding stage presence all play a part in creating numbers that feel larger than life.
What makes Miss Foguen particularly interesting is her approach to drag. She embraces an incredibly feminine aesthetic whilst also playing with androgyny in ways that challenge expectations. During our 2026 visit she performed with a beard whilst still maintaining an unmistakably glamorous and feminine look, creating a style that felt both striking and uniquely her own.
Every time she stepped onto the stage, there was a confidence and energy that made her impossible to ignore. Combined with her exceptional dancing ability, it was easy to see why she remains such a popular part of the Sparkles lineup.
Miss Foguen brings local Gran Canaria flair to Sparkles Bar with her exceptional dancing and authentic island style every Thursday night.

The extraordinary variety and consistent talent across all performers made every single night feel completely different, which is exactly why we kept returning to Sparkles Bar Maspalomas night after night.

Former Sparkles Favourites
One of the interesting things about returning to Sparkles is seeing how the lineup evolves over time. Several performers who made our previous visit so memorable have since moved on to new opportunities, but they remain a huge part of our Sparkles memories.
Reina Fame
Reina Fame (@reinafame) was our favourite performer during our 2025 visit to Sparkles Bar. This Northern Irish glamourous queen delivered high-camp perfection with themed pop medleys that felt fresh and original every single night. Her ability to seamlessly link songs together through clever themes showcased both creativity and an impressive knowledge of music.
Every performance involved audience interaction that felt natural rather than forced, and she had a wonderful knack for making the entire room feel part of the show. Meeting her out of drag after one performance only reinforced our admiration. She was an absolute sweetheart, and that genuine warmth perfectly captured what makes the Sparkles experience so special.
Reina departed Sparkles in April 2026 after four and a half years of entertaining audiences in Maspalomas. Whilst we were sad not to see her during our return visit, she’ll always be one of the queens we most associate with our first Sparkles experience.
She is currently pursuing opportunities outside of drag but has indicated that she may return for future Sparkles reunions. If that happens, we’d happily be first in line to see her perform again.

Polly Glamorous
Polly Glamorous (@itspollyglamorous) was another standout performer from our 2025 visit to Sparkles Bar. Hailing from Ireland, she combined powerhouse vocals with brilliant audience interaction, creating performances that felt both polished and personal.
Her voice is genuinely stunning, the kind that makes you momentarily forget you’re watching drag and simply appreciate the quality of the singing. She also had a wonderful ability to make people feel welcome, creating intimate moments even in a packed venue.
Polly could be quite cutting on the microphone, but it was always delivered with a mischievous sense of humour and so much charm that even the people on the receiving end usually ended up laughing along. She had a real gift for reading the room and knowing exactly how far to push a joke.
Polly departed Sparkles in January 2026 and has since relocated to London, where she performs regularly. We were fortunate enough to see her again in Manchester after she left Gran Canaria and can confirm that she’s every bit as phenomenal away from Sparkles as she was on the Yumbo stage.
Whilst she’s no longer part of the regular Sparkles lineup, she’ll always be one of the performers we remember most fondly from our first visit.
Polly Glamorous delivers stunning vocals and brilliant audience interaction, showcasing the world-class talent that makes Sparkles Bar Maspalomas special.

Queen Queef
Queen Queef (@queenqueefofficial) was one of the most creative performers we saw during our 2025 visit to Sparkles Bar. Originally from Australia, she combined powerhouse vocals with a sharp sense of humour and an ability to create performances that felt genuinely original.
What stood out most was her creativity. She had a knack for bringing together seemingly unrelated themes and songs in ways that somehow worked perfectly. One particular routine linking religious imagery with Madonna was pure genius and remains one of the most memorable performances from our first trip.
Alongside the clever concepts, Queen Queef possessed a fantastic voice and a confidence on stage that made every appearance feel like an event. Her performances showcased not only her talent but also a real intelligence and understanding of how to entertain an audience.
Queen Queef left Sparkles in September 2025 and has since relocated to Manchester, where she performs regularly across the city and at private events. She has also joined the cast of Drag Me to the Musicals, a role that feels perfectly suited to her combination of vocal talent, creativity, and stage presence.
Although we only got to enjoy her performances during our first Sparkles visit, she remains one of the queens we still talk about whenever we look back on our 2025 trip.

Selina Pearl
Selina Pearl(@selina_pearl), was one of the standout guest performers from our 2025 visit to Sparkles Bar. Visiting from Belgium on a residency, she brought a touch of showgirl glamour to the lineup with stunning costumes, impressive dancing, and the confidence of a performer with years of experience on stage.
What we particularly enjoyed about Selina was her versatility. Whether performing high-energy numbers or something more emotional, she always seemed completely at ease in front of the audience. Her polished stage presence and attention to detail made every appearance feel special.
Unlike many of the other queens featured in this section, Selina wasn’t a permanent member of the Sparkles cast. Instead, she appeared as part of a residency, giving audiences the chance to enjoy a different style of drag alongside the regular performers.
Although we didn’t get to see Selina during our 2026 visit, she has returned to Sparkles this year for another residency. If she’s appearing during your trip to Gran Canaria, we’d definitely recommend making the effort to see her perform.

Miss Ash
Miss Ash brought a wonderfully traditional style of drag to our 2025 visit to Sparkles Bar. Her performances celebrated the timeless side of the art form, combining elegant stage presence with classic songs that perfectly suited her style.
Whilst many of the other queens specialised in high-energy comedy, audience interaction, or modern pop culture references, Miss Ash offered something different. Her polished performances and years of experience brought a sense of glamour and sophistication to the lineup, proving that classic drag never goes out of fashion.
Whether performing iconic songs from legends such as Shirley Bassey or Gloria Gaynor, she had a natural ability to command the stage and captivate an audience without needing elaborate props or gimmicks.
Miss Ash is no longer part of the Sparkles lineup, but she remains one of the performers we remember fondly from our first visit. Her style provided a wonderful contrast to the more contemporary acts and helped showcase the incredible variety of talent that Sparkles attracted.

Drinks, Service and Value for Money
One of the reasons we kept returning to Sparkles every evening was the combination of great entertainment and genuinely reasonable drink prices.
Happy hour runs until 10pm and covers a wide range of drinks, including beers, alcopops, spirits, and the venue’s famous cocktail pitchers. At €14 for 1.6 litres during happy hour, the pitchers remain one of the best-value drinks deals we found anywhere in Maspalomas.
The drinks menu is extensive, with plenty of choice whether you’re looking for cocktails, wine, beer, soft drinks, or premium spirits. Across both of our visits, we found the quality consistently good and the prices surprisingly reasonable given the location and nightly entertainment on offer.
The service deserves special mention. Table service operates throughout the venue, with ‘Please Serve Me’ cards on each table allowing you to catch the attention of staff when needed. Despite the venue often being extremely busy, service remained friendly and efficient throughout our stay.
Returning for a second year also highlighted just how welcoming the team are. Several members of staff recognised us from our previous visit and greeted us like old friends. It’s a small detail, but one that perfectly captures the atmosphere Sparkles has created.
Payment is straightforward, with both cash and card accepted throughout the venue. If you’d like to support the performers directly, Sparkles has also introduced Drag Dollars, a tipping system that allows guests to purchase tokens for €1 each and tip their favourite queens throughout the show, similar to the drag tipping culture you’ll find in the United States.
Compared to a night out back home in the UK, Sparkles continues to offer excellent value for money. When you combine reasonably priced drinks, table service, and two hours of high-quality entertainment every night, it’s easy to understand why so many visitors return again and again.
Our nightly weakness – 1.6 litres of cocktail perfection for just €13 during happy hour. At roughly €2.80 per drink, it’s unbeatable value.
The Crowd and Atmosphere
One of the things Sparkles does exceptionally well is creating an environment where everyone feels welcome.
Although the venue sits at the heart of Gran Canaria’s LGBTQ+ nightlife scene, the audience is incredibly mixed. Across our visits we saw gay couples, straight couples, groups of friends, solo travellers, and visitors of all ages enjoying the shows together. The atmosphere is inclusive without ever feeling forced.
The majority of guests tend to be English-speaking tourists, which makes sense given the humour, audience interaction, and many of the cultural references used throughout the performances. Even so, the queens are incredibly skilled at reading a room and ensuring everyone feels part of the experience.
There is no dress code to worry about. Throughout our visits we saw everything from holidaymakers wearing shorts and flip-flops to guests who had clearly made a real effort for a night out. Nobody looked out of place.
What separates Sparkles from many other entertainment venues is how interactive the experience feels. The audience isn’t simply sitting quietly watching a performance. The queens regularly engage with guests, react to what’s happening in the room, and create moments that are unique to that particular evening.
After thirteen nights at Sparkles across two separate holidays, one thing became very clear. The venue attracts people from all walks of life, but everyone is there for the same reason: to have a good time.
By the end of the evening it’s not unusual to find complete strangers laughing together, singing along, and cheering on performers they’ve only met a few hours earlier. That sense of shared fun is a huge part of what makes Sparkles so special.
The nightly shows combine comedy, music, audience interaction, and plenty of surprises.

Insider Tips from 13 Nights
After spending thirteen nights at Sparkles across two separate holidays, we’ve picked up a few tips that will help you make the most of your visit.
Arrive Earlier Than You Think
Whilst the main drag show doesn’t usually begin until around 11pm, Sparkles starts filling up long before then. If you want a good choice of tables, we’d recommend arriving between 9pm and 9:30pm.
This also gives you time to take advantage of happy hour, enjoy the karaoke, and settle into the atmosphere before the main event begins.
Choosing The Best Seats
The venue is designed so that most tables enjoy excellent views of the stage, but if it’s your first visit we’d recommend aiming for a table somewhere near the centre of the venue.
The upgraded stage, huge LED screen, and special effects are best appreciated from a central position, whilst still giving you plenty of opportunities for audience interaction.
Reserving A Table
If you’re visiting on a Saturday, reserving a table is well worth considering.
We booked a table for the Saturday night of our 2026 trip and were glad we did. The venue was extremely busy and many of the best tables had already been snapped up well before the show started.
The easiest way to reserve a table is by sending Sparkles a message on Instagram. If you do book, make sure you arrive before 9:30pm, as reserved tables are only held until then.
For quieter midweek evenings we never felt the need to reserve, but it’s a useful option if you’re visiting during a busy period, travelling in a larger group, or celebrating a special occasion.
Bring Your Camera
Photos and videos are permitted throughout the performances, so don’t be afraid to capture some of your favourite moments.
The queens regularly appear in social media posts from visitors and often share content from guests on their own accounts. If you do post your photos or videos online, remember to tag the performers and Sparkles.
One of our favourite traditions at Sparkles is the opportunity to meet the queens after the show. Following the finale, performers are usually available for photographs, giving you the chance to take home a memorable souvenir from your night.
The perfect holiday souvenir – free photos with the world-class performers after every show finale at Sparkles Bar Maspalomas.
Understanding Drag Dollars
Sparkles has introduced Drag Dollars, allowing guests to tip performers in a fun and interactive way.
Drag Dollars cost €1 each and can be purchased from the venue in cash. During the show, you can hand them directly to your favourite queens, similar to the tipping culture often seen at drag venues in the United States.
There’s absolutely no obligation to tip, but it’s a great way to show appreciation for performers who have made your evening particularly memorable.
Weekdays Or Weekends?
Sparkles was busy every night we visited, regardless of the day of the week. If you’re looking for the biggest crowds and liveliest atmosphere, Fridays and Saturdays are usually the busiest nights.
That said, some of our favourite performances took place midweek. The quality of entertainment remains consistently high throughout the week, so don’t feel you need to save your visit for the weekend.
Don’t Assume One Visit Is Enough
We originally planned to visit Sparkles once during our first holiday. We ended up spending six nights there.
When we returned to Gran Canaria in 2026, we fully expected to go back, and somehow ended up spending all seven evenings there too.
Make of that what you will.
Our Honest Verdict
If you couldn’t already tell, we’re huge fans of Sparkles Bar Maspalomas.
Across two separate holidays, we’ve now spent thirteen nights at Sparkles, which is probably the strongest endorsement we can give. Most bars get one visit. Very few become part of your holiday routine.
What makes Sparkles special isn’t any single thing. It’s the combination of talented performers, welcoming staff, reasonable drinks prices, and an atmosphere that encourages everyone to relax and have fun. The upgraded stage and production elements have enhanced the experience, but the heart of Sparkles remains the queens themselves.
One of the things we were most curious about before returning in 2026 was whether the venue would feel the same after several popular performers had moved on. Thankfully, those concerns disappeared almost immediately. The lineup may have changed, but the quality certainly hasn’t.
In many ways, Sparkles feels stronger than ever. New performers have brought fresh energy to the stage, whilst long-standing favourites continue to deliver the kind of entertainment that keeps audiences coming back night after night.
Perhaps the biggest compliment we can give Sparkles is that returning felt like coming back to see old friends. From the performers on stage to the staff working behind the bar, there is a genuine warmth to the venue that is difficult to describe until you’ve experienced it yourself.
If you’re a fan of drag, Sparkles should be at the very top of your Gran Canaria itinerary. Even if you’ve never been to a drag show before, it’s one of the most welcoming, entertaining, and enjoyable nights out you’ll find anywhere on the island.
We originally visited for one night.
We stayed for six.
We came back the following year and stayed for seven.
That probably tells you everything you need to know..

Is Sparkles Bar suitable for straight couples?
Absolutely. Whilst Sparkles sits at the heart of Gran Canaria’s LGBTQ+ nightlife scene, the audience is incredibly mixed. During our visits we saw straight couples, gay couples, groups of friends, solo travellers, and visitors of all ages enjoying the shows together.
Can I take photos and videos during the performances?
Yes. Photos and videos are permitted throughout the show, and many guests share their favourite moments on social media. The queens also regularly pose for photographs after the finale, giving visitors the opportunity to take home a memorable souvenir from their evening.
Which queens currently perform at Sparkles Bar?
The lineup changes regularly throughout the year, but during our 2026 visit we saw performers including Brandy, Rosebud, Dinah Might, Angel, Samantha Moans, Violet Pain, Venus, Miss Foguen, Heather Phetish, and Armani. One of the things that keeps Sparkles fresh is the constant evolution of its cast.
Is Sparkles Bar worth visiting?
Without a doubt. After spending thirteen nights at Sparkles across two separate holidays, we can confidently say it’s one of the most entertaining nights out we’ve experienced in Gran Canaria. The combination of talented performers, welcoming staff, great atmosphere, and reasonable drink prices keeps people coming back year after year.
Final Thoughts: Sparkles Bar Maspalomas
When we first walked into Sparkles Bar, we expected to enjoy a fun night of drag entertainment.
We didn’t expect it to become the highlight of two separate Gran Canaria holidays.
Across thirteen nights, we’ve watched the lineup evolve, seen the venue undergo a major stage transformation, met some incredibly talented performers, and laughed far more than any adults probably should. Despite all the changes since our first visit, the one thing that hasn’t changed is how much fun Sparkles is.
Whether you’re a lifelong drag fan or someone considering their first show, Sparkles offers an evening that’s welcoming, entertaining, and completely unforgettable.
We’ll almost certainly be back again.
And if history is anything to go by, we’ll probably end up spending far more nights there than originally planned.
