Travel Enthusiast & Spain Expert
I’m Liam, the creator of Travels Around Spain, a travel blog inspired by my lifelong love affair with the Iberian Peninsula.
My love affair with Spain started when I was just 6 months old on my first trip! Years later, I studied Spanish at university, then spent a decade in the classroom as a Spanish teacher. Those years didn’t just make me fluent; they gave me an insider’s appreciation for the culture, the people, and all those little details that guidebooks miss. It became a lifelong ambition of mine to visit every corner of Spain, and through all my adventures—which have taken me to every single one of Spain’s 17 autonomous communities—I’ve picked up the kind of local knowledge that can turn your average holidays into something truly unforgettable.
Travels Around Spain is where I share authentic insights, hidden gems, and practical tips to help you discover the real España. Whether you’re planning your first visit or your fifteenth, I’m here to guide you on an unforgettable journey through this incredible country.

Explore Spain’s Top Cities
After visiting every corner of Spain, these four cities represent the perfect introduction for first-time visitors. Whether you’re drawn to Madrid’s vibrant energy, Barcelona’s architectural marvels, Valencia’s coastal charm, or Granada’s Moorish magic – I’ll show you the Spain that guidebooks miss.
Barcelona was actually my very first Spanish city break back in 2004, and I’ve returned seven times since because there’s always something new to discover. My three visits to Madrid have shown me everything from world-class museums to the incredible energy of Pride 2024, whilst Granada’s Moorish treasures and Valencia’s authentic paella scene (discovered during a wonderful family holiday in 2022) continue to captivate me.
What makes these destinations special isn’t just their famous attractions – it’s the authentic Spanish life that unfolds between them. The late-night dinners that stretch past midnight, the afternoon siestas that actually make sense, and the warmth of locals who’ll spend ages helping you even when they don’t speak your language.
These cities provide the perfect foundation for any Spanish adventure. Whether you’ve got a long weekend or a fortnight to spare, they’ll leave you planning your return trip before you’ve even caught your flight home.
